GLXS4

The Goodman GLZS4 is Energy - Efficiency Standard Family R32 Split-System Heat Pump. Designed for durability and dependable performance, the GLZS4 is an excellent option for homeowners looking for an affordable yet effective indoor comfort control solution for every season. As a heat pump, it provides all-electric heating and cooling by transferring heat, making it an energy-efficient alternative to systems using fossil fuel heating systems.

Technology

SmartShift is a specialized control mechanism on the outdoor unit's defrost board designed to drastically reduce the loud, jarring noise that heat pumps typically make when switching into defrost mode.
The Problem:
In cold weather, a heat pump's outdoor coils freeze up. To melt the ice, the system must temporarily reverse itself into cooling mode to send heat outside. In standard systems, shifting the reversing valve while the compressor is running under full pressure creates a loud "whooshing" or clunking sound.
The SmartShift Solution:
When a defrost cycle is triggered, SmartShift temporarily shuts off or delays the compressor for a few seconds before the reversing valve shifts. This allows internal system pressures to equalize first. Once the valve smoothly transitions in near-silence, the compressor restarts to clear the ice.
